As the anniversary of the BP oil spill approaches, small amounts of information about new troubles are starting to leak out. Officials are saying that the darkened waters off the Louisiana coast are due to silt from a dredging project in the Mississippi River... locals fear otherwise.

While I do believe that silt could be playing a part, and remainders of last year's crisis could still be lurking around, I can not believe that the media is not all over this! After what has happened in the past, any small sign of oil in our waters should spark serious investigations and at the very least be presented to the public.
I am yet to see any real television news coverage on the matter. The only thing I've seen at all was a small clip about silt scaring Louisiana residents.
All other information I've seen has come from other concerned individuals, or was produced after some Internet searching.
If the lack of information isn't infuriating enough, take a moment to think about the fact that the Interior Department is approving new deep water drilling projects!!! There may be new standards and requirements in place, but the fact remains that the CURRENT rigs are still a risk. Why are we adding more?

I know that oil companies want to prove that they can still operate and do it safely, but to me the risks are bigger than the benefits!
If government officials really want to consider what should go in to properly developing standards and requirements then they should experience and appreciate the oil industry for what it's really capable of. They should live in the oil soaked areas around the gulf. They should fear losing their jobs, beaches, wildlife, and possibly losing their lives. Let's not forget the men that died on last year's rig. They were doing their job and a lack of safety took their lives. Men died! Countless animals died!! The damage done by oil in the gulf will not go away easily or in a timely manner!!! Why would officials agree to feed the fire with more dangerous drilling projects????
Better yet, why hasn't the media covered anything aside from a possibly false story about silt that is being mistaken for oil?
Even though we should not have to dig for information and updates on this matter, please keep yourself informed!!
